Days 22 and 23: Friday and Saturday, September 13-14, 2019: Mansilla de las Mulas to Leon and our mid-Camino (sort of) break!
This was the first day we actually walked a stage the was recommended in the most popular guide to the Camino Francés, written by John Brierley and friends.
Breakfast at the Albergue was very nice and It was not a difficult walk, though it was 13 miles and had a few steep hills before Leon.
We had been looking forward to a day off, since we had walked 22 days straight. We arrived Leon around noon and had booked an AC Marriott property just off the Camino.
Our room was lovely and we decided to walk towards the Cathedral to a Sushi restaurant called Sibuya. Raise your hand if you have had Sushi in Spain....anyone? LOL! It was outstanding with a couple of the rolls having a distinctly Spanish flair! Our adorable waitress, Anna, spoke very good English and was very pleasant.
Back to the hotel for a nap and, just for fun, ordered in from...get this...Papa John’s! Raise your hand if you have had Papa John’s in Spain....anyone?!? It was great!
Day 2 in Leon, we started out with a wonderful breakfast at the hotel lounge. Then we walked up to the Cathedral. Beautiful. Just beautiful. We also visited the adjacent convent and found an outfitter with a couple of tech shirts for the rest of the trip.
Then we went to the Supermercado (supermarket) and bought some cheese, sausage, pate, crackers and wine for a restful evening in. 16 miles tomorrow, but what a nice restful couple of days in Leon.
Today’s “Camino Lesson:” Listen to your body and take a break from time to time. We all need a little down time. It helps heal the body and soul and helps us prepare for the next challenge.
