Day 17, Sunday , September 8th, 2019: Itero de la Vega to Villarmentero de Campos
We left the Albergue around 6:30 am and headed past the ongoing street party hoping for breakfast and coffee 5 miles down the road at Boadilla del Camino. We were not disappointed as the En El Camino served up a lovely tomato and cheese bocadillo and an actual mug of coffee. We met some new friends at breakfast too!
Claudia is from Romania, Felix is from Frankfurt, and Bob was from the UK. We made pleasant conversation, wished them Buen Camino, and were on our way.
As we were leaving breakfast, we met Geoff and Makayla from Australia again! We walked and talked with them as we all made our way to Fromista. Stopping there for some coffee and water, we headed out again, saying goodbye to them and meeting a new friend.
Jess from Australia was a delightful young lady walking on her own to Santiago. We chatted about friends and family as we walked the last five miles to Villarmentero de Camposand our Albergue: Casona de Dona Petra.
Lovely little place with very few guests, but we had a nice shower and nap and met Geoff and Makayla for dinner. Good chat over dinner and then off to bed!
Today’s “Camino Lesson:” don’t be afraid to say hello.
Often we expect others to make the effort to get to know us. If we are open to making new friends, it never hurts to be ready to start the conversation ourselves. Sometimes it’s uncomfortable, but often you will be rewarded with a smile and a conversation. And maybe make a new friend. Jess taught me this today!
The Meseta is so striking
