Day 36, Friday , September 27th, 2019: Salceda to Lavacolla

Day 36, Friday , September 27th, 2019: Salceda to Lavacolla

Today started with bacon and eggs and coffee amidst a large group of 15-20 Peregrinos beginning the last 16 miles to Santiago. Some were going all the way today and some, like us were breaking it up a bit. Today, we planned to only walk 10.5 miles and stay overnight in Lavacolla, leaving us just a short 6.6 mile hike to our final destination, Santiago de Compostela.

And God decided to remind us of His great power to make a simple hike a miserable, muddy mess!  Lol!

We walked all morning in a very persistent rain. Many hills in this final stage and today was no exception. Many school children on this final stage, and today was no exception.  We actually spent the last mile chatting with some of them and enjoyed their enthusiasm and commeraderie! They seemed rather amused that I played Minecraft!  Lol!

Arrived our Albergue, La Concha, around noon and proceeded to have a nice lunch and the went to get dried out.

Learned today to be more understanding and tolerant. The rules of the Camino and the popularization of this last stretch in Spain has led to the test of patience and perseverance.

Tomorrow, we will arrive Santiago and seek our Compostela to memorialize this achievement and journey. So many things I will need time to express, and share.

Stay tuned!

Another hike in the rain…what fun!

We enjoyed what solitude we could find

These forests are lovely, even in the rain
