Day 28, Thursday , September 19th, 2019: Riego de Ambrós to Cacabelos
After a mostly sleepless night due to the aches and pains of yesterday, we got up around 6 and left the Albergue around 7am. Big mileage day today at 17.6 miles. Still dark, and the first 3.5 miles were all downhill amidst boulders, hard-scrabble and foot-wrenching uneven surfaces on a steep downhill. Ouch! Terri claimed on FB that she made that hill her “bitch!” And she did too! Lol!
Molinaseca was the town at the bottom of that long decent and we happily had breakfast and chatted with a you Swedish Peregrino who had started her trek in León. Then it was on to Ponferrada, legendary home of The Knights Templar.
It was a grand castle which we did not get to go inside of, but heard wonderful things about it and the exterior was amazing. Ponferrada was a very modern town and, unfortunately, most places were closed, so we headed on to Cacabellos.
Our lovely accommodations we at the Moncloa de San Lazaro. We were treated to some local wine and tapas at check in and then shown to our room. A foot soak was definitely due!
Queen of the mountain!
Hiking down a mountain is more painful than climbing up!
